Jamie Bulger was with his mother in the Bootle Strand shopping centre, Liverpool, when his mother stopped at a butchers to make an order. Also in the shopping centre that day were Jon Venables and Robert Thompson.
Venables and Thompson were playing truant - which is something that they regularly did. CCTV images show that their time in the shopping centre was spent shoplifting and following young children around, as if looking for the right one. Venables and Thompson saw two year old James Bulger with his mother, as her attention was taken off James for one moment, the boys took James by the hand and walked him off towards the top floor of the shopping centre. James' mother frantically looked around for her child and was aided by security staff in the centre, unfortunately, her child was already gone. After this point it started to get a little more serious as James was still missing later that night. Police searches commenced yet they found nothing. It wasn't until another young boy went to the police station and confessed he had found a body - at Walton & Anley Railway Station.
